How to Clean Your Diamond Jewelry

When Eternity Wedding Bands ships their customers diamond jewelry, they ship it brand new. It has a beautiful, radiant shine and sparkles with a luminous glow. Customers ask us all the time, how do I keep that beautiful shine? How do I make my diamond jewelry look brand new? Below are the reasons why your diamond jewelry can loose that 'brand new' look, suggestions to keep your diamond jewelry looking new and tips on cleaning your jewelry.

It's normal for diamond jewelry to loose that shine and luster from when it was first purchased. Every day products such as hand lotion, styling products, suntan lotion, etc. can leave a small layer on the jewelry without the wearer noticing. After months of these products leaving a small film, you'll begin to notice a build-up of dirt and grime in the mounting of the jewelry and the underneath of the diamond, thus making the diamond appear less brilliant, dull and life-less. Every day tasks such as washing the dishes, gardening and cleaning can also contribute to your diamond jewelry losing its beautiful shine. While dirt will seep into the crevices, every day wear may scratch the metal on your jewelry giving it a real worn-in look.

Sure-Fire Tips To Keep Your Diamond Jewelry Looking Its Best!
Diamond jewelry should be cleaned approximately one time per month, with a professional clean approximately once a year. Eternity Wedding Bands offers a refurbishing service for $35.00 + Shipping where we'll clean, polish, re-plate (if appropriate) and tighten and secure the setting. Please contact customer service for more information.

General care for you diamond rings and diamond jewelry can be quick and easy. You can make a simple and inexpensive solution made of water and a mild liquid kitchen dish detergent for easy cleaning. Here’s how -

1) Fill a small bowl with warm soapy water. Let your rings and other diamond jewelry soak for 5-10 minutes to give it time to loosen any dirt or grime that may be on them.

2) Using a soft brush, such as an eyebrow brush, lipstick brush or baby toothbrush, gently scrub the diamond and metal. Be sure to use a soft brush and don’t push, so you don’t risk scratching the metal.

3) Rinse the rings and other diamond jewelry under warm to hot water. Quick tip – use a wire tea strainer or small wire colander so you don’t risk losing anything down the drain!

If necessary, repeat.

To keep a great shine you should try to clean all your diamond jewelry approximately once a month. Many sites recommend steering clear of using toothpaste as a cleaning method. We've been in the business for decades, however, and find a minimal amount of toothpaste on a soft toothbrush is an easy, quick and effective method to clean our diamond jewelry.

To further protect the diamonds and metal you should store your jewelry in separate sections of a jewelry box with a soft surface. Although diamonds are the hardest substance known to man, a diamond can scratch another diamond. We also highly recommend removing your diamond jewelry when you are showering, cleaning around the house or outside, and while doing any other work that might damage or scratch your jewelry. Even while sleeping, you should remove your jewelry so it doesn’t get caught on the sheets, blanket or pillowcase.

We recommend having a local jeweler check the setting of your rings and diamond jewelry about once a year. Normal wear and tear can loosen a setting over time. The longer a setting is left unfixed, the looser the diamond can get and the more risk you have of losing that diamond.

Your jewelry is a precious investment. If cared for properly it can keep a beautiful brilliance and shine and be proudly handed down to children and grandchildren to become a wonderful family heirloom.
